The Tomsk Young Spectator Theater is set to host the premiere of the play 'His Name is Lemuel' on October 3 and 4. This captivating production, directed by Mikhail Zhigalov, offers a unique take on the classic tale of Gulliver's Travels, setting the story in a Russian setting.

The play explores the clash between Gulliver, a man not built for a certain kind of journey, and a society with its own rules, customs, and rituals. Gulliver, portrayed as a man not particularly strong in spirit, finds himself in an unfamiliar Russian environment, encountering characters like скоморохи and Baba Yaga, which introduce elements from Russian folklore.

Gulliver's behavior in the play is at odds with expectations in a Russian fairy tale, presenting a narrative that challenges traditional societal norms and expectations. The main theme of the play is the hero's self-identification among established ways of behavior.

The cast includes renowned artists such as Oleg Streletz, Olga Ulyanova, Alexandra Ukhman, Vyacheslav Ostwald, Ruslan Kostyurin, Alexander Chernikov, Vladislav Soroka, Timofey Abaskalov, Darya Avdyushina, Valeria Borodkina, Sofia Kulishina, and Olga Ryabova, who is a Merited Artist of Russia.

Ballet mistress Ekaterina Makarova is also working on the play, promising a blend of drama and ballet in this intriguing production. The play 'His Name is Lemuel' is based on Jonathan Swift's 'Gulliver's Travels,' offering a fresh perspective on the classic tale.
