In the heart of Germany, the city of Solingen hosted its annual art event, PlakART 2024. This unique exhibition saw 42 works of art adorn the city's streets, squares, and the homepage of solingen650.de from June 11 to July 11, with a common theme of "650 years of Solingen".

The event, which began in 2021, aims to bring art closer to the public by displaying it on poster boards in public spaces. Visitors had the opportunity to acquire original artworks via a lottery system, making PlakART an accessible and exciting way to own a piece of art.

The four winning pieces showcased a great stylistic range of the Solingen art scene, with some being figurative and others abstract. The lottery was integrated into the poster campaign, requiring participants to photograph and submit images of four motifs.

City Director and Cultural Commissioner Dagmar Becker drew the winning tickets for the PlakART 2024 lottery, with four winners being selected from over 450 entries. The four winning pieces are: "Diversity" by Judith Funke, "Aquae" by Ulrika Eller-Rueter, "Coming Home" by Conny Schuessler, and "We go...Home!" by Stefan Seeger.

The poster campaign has been an essential part of the cityscape since 2021, featuring artworks by Solingen-based artists. It has played a crucial role in promoting and displaying the artworks, serving as a stage for artworks during the pandemic. The art museum in Solingen was involved in the PlakART 2024 exhibition, further emphasising the city's commitment to supporting its local artists.

The initiative has been ongoing since 2021, offering a continuous display of Solingen artists' works in the city. The poster campaign has been instrumental in showcasing the art scene within the cityscape, especially during challenging times like the pandemic. It has been a significant part of the cityscape's revitalization, providing a platform for Solingen artists to shine.

Artworks in the cityscape of Solingen, beyond just the walls of the art museum, extend to the realms of home-and-garden, reflecting the lifestyle of the city. The PlakART 2024 exhibition, in its third year, has not only adorned public spaces but also transformed homes, with the winning pieces such as "Diversity" by Judith Funke, "Aquae" by Ulrika Eller-Rueter, "Coming Home" by Conny Schuessler, and "We go...Home!" by Stefan Seeger, serving as exclusive home decor.
