Winners of PlakART competition secure authentic Solinger artworks for their lounges
In the heart of Germany, the city of Solingen recently hosted the PlakART 2024 event, a celebration of art and creativity that saw the participation of over 450 entries. City Director and Cultural Director Dagmar Becker drew the winning lots, marking the culmination of this year's event.
The artworks, displayed on the streets, squares, and the homepage solingen650.de, showcased a wide stylistic range, with some being figurative and others abstract. A total of 42 artworks were displayed large-scale in Solingen from June 11 to July 11, each one contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape of the city.
The poster action lottery, an additional feature of the PlakART event, has been a part of the festivities since 2021. Participants were required to photograph four specific motifs and send the photos to the city of Solingen. This year's lottery resulted in four winners who received unique art pieces.
The winning artworks were "Diversity" by Judith Funke, "Aquae" by Ulrika Eller-Rueter, "Coming Home" by Conny Schuessler, and "We go...Home!" by Stefan Seeger. The winners received their artworks at the Art Museum in Solingen on Thursday.
The PlakART event serves as a platform for numerous local artists, with this year's common theme being "650 Years of Solingen". By showcasing contemporary and traditional forms of visual communication, the event supports Solingen's creative community and enhances the city's cultural identity.
While detailed information about the history and significance of PlakART in Solingen is scarce, it is clear that this event plays a crucial role in the city's art scene.
