Neuss's Wenders Square is set for a vibrant makeover, as the LAND landscape architecture firm takes on the task of revitalising the space for the upcoming Landesgartenschau 2026 event. The design aims to create a central, inviting space that reflects the festival's lively atmosphere.

The temporary design will incorporate creative uses of plantings, seating, and artistic installations that encourage visitor participation and enhance the public space ambience. LAND's reputation for blending functionality with artistic and ecological sensitivity suggests a design that will be both aesthetically appealing and sustainable.

The square will be transformed into a shady experience venue, featuring a 70-meter-high observation tower, a Ferris wheel (from June 2026), colorful raised beds, mist showers, trees, urban seating areas, lighting, and a pavilion of the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein. The pedestrian path will be widened, and there will be a crossing of the Hessentordamm and numerous bike racks.

The IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein pavilion will serve as a showcase of the local economy during the Landesgartenschau. Companies will showcase innovations, and young people will have the opportunity to experience training professions firsthand and meet apprentices and trainers. The motto for the IHK's presentation is "Economy. Education. Growth."

The transformation of Wenders Square is part of a collaborative urban design concept that won in a workshop process with city planners and architects of JSWD. Construction work for the temporary design will commence at the beginning of the new year.

To ensure a quality stay, the area will be car-free during the Landesgartenschau. The square will serve as a central connection between the city center and the Landesgartenschau grounds, with a widened pedestrian path and a crossing of the Hessentordamm. Numerous bike racks will be available for visitors.

For precise details about the exact design of the temporary transformation, referring directly to the Landesgartenschau 2026 official communications or LAND’s project releases would be necessary. However, available information from cultural festival and landscaping contexts indicates a focus on dynamic, colorful, and participatory designs during such events.

The revitalized Wenders Square, during the Landesgartenschau 2026, will offer a vibrant and engaging home-and-garden lifestyle experience, with creative installations and colorful raised beds. The square's transformation also includes a focus on education, as the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein pavilion will showcase local economy innovations and provide opportunities for young people to learn about various trades.
