Week-Long VHS Extravaganza in Saarbrücken: Culturally Rich Journey Through History Unveiled
Get ready for a week-long celebration of New York City's diverse culture, history, and culinary world, as Saarbrücken, Germany, hosts the "From History to Culinary Delights" event from August 7th to 12th, 2023.
This exciting event, organised by the Volkshochschule Regionalverband Saarbrücken (vhs) and the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut Saarland, promises an interdisciplinary journey through the history of New York, led by cultural scientist Dr. Heribert J. Leonardy. Highlights include the exploration of significant historical events such as the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, a pivotal starting point of the American women's rights movement, and the works of renowned authors like Paul Auster.
The event series, supported by the Embassy of the United States of America, the Federal Foreign Office, and Saartoto, will take place primarily at the Old Town Hall at Saarbrücken's Schlossplatz, the main headquarters of the Volkshochschule.
For those looking to get their dance on, Christine Krieger will lead a Line Dance Workshop, allowing participants to dance in a group without a partner. The music for the workshop ranges from country to pop and appeals to both the young and the old.
Foodies will not be disappointed, as the culinary side of New York is honoured with a seminar for beer lovers and an event celebrating it as the global capital of gastronomy on a specific date.
Photographer Roland Marske will present the multi-visual show "New York - The City That Never Sleeps" during the event.
Registration for the events can be done online at www.vhs-saarbruecken.de or by email at [email protected]. With the exception of the beer seminar, all events are free of charge.
Please note that detailed information about the specific dates and times of each event, as well as any updates, can be found on the official Saarbrücken city website or cultural event calendars in Saarbrücken.
