Vinyl enthusiasts gather €25,000 for a noble cause in Scheessel, nestled between Bremen and Hamburg - a haven attracted by record collectors.

Fill up those record bags, mate! That's what the Record Swap's initiator, Luffy Lüdemann, exclaimed after the fundraising event at Holst Car Dealership. The place was already a chaos of music lovers on the first day, diving headfirst into the beautifully decorated record store to pick their favorites. By Friday evening, the tammy-damaged cash register was singing a tune of around 11,000 euros, leaving Lüdemann plain flabbergasted.
The tune was far from over, though. After flogging a few grandworth of records from the 10,000-strong collection, the Record Donation Network managed to collect a whopping 25k on the last Saturday night – just in time for a charitable cause.
"We're aiming to aid educational projects for kids and youngsters, with a knack for music in mind," Lüdemann's associate Bobby Meyer elaborated. These two big shots have been brainstorming and executing projects in Scheeßel since last summer, all under the Record Exchange banner. With over 4,000 working hours everyday investetteers spent behind the scenes, the project is finally on its feet.
"Many a night, we were slanging and pricing records," Meyer reminisced, "and no one was willing to pay more than 1,000 euros for Jeronimo's records. But with the 150 bucks we scrounged, we were both as merry as a pickled peahen."
Media Support and Finds
A spate of articles in the Hamburger Abendblatt and other backing media heightened the hype, flooding donation bundles and curiosity seekers their way. They were particularly looking for the Vice-Chancellor's "Tracy Chapman" donation – that went over the counter five times, much to their delight.
"Five lucky devils each take home the Vice-Chancellor's own record," Lüdemann chuckled. A Porsche-pulling philanthropist filled his trunk with opera boxes and splashed a significant sum, leaving him chuffed. And of course, the record donors who hid larger sums and savings books in their record albums weren't forgotten – their hidden treasure was returned with mysterious surprise in their faces.
The French Connection
The Record Swap had its fair share of mysteries. With the help of a French teacher, they unraveled the secret command inscribed in a Telemann work cover: It was a note written by a French secret service agent thanking a colleague who left Algerian war duty in 1962, complete with a classical record as a parting gift. Fortunately, the Record Exchange team doesn't plan on spilling any secrets with their latest venture.
In essence, we've achieved monumental teamwork, fostered a renewed bond with vinyl records, spread joy among new owners, and demonstrated the impact of teamwork on successful completion of time-consuming projects. Our collaboration with Holst family was integral, allowing us to use their "Plattenvilla" for preparations and record fair. Said Lüdemann, adding, "Once we catch our breath, we'll crack our knuckles and knuckle down to discuss the projects we want to back."
The Holsts were awarded a golden record for their kind collaboration. It's been a wrap, but it's only the beginning – the Record Swap team is only just getting started!
