Transformed Dull Classroom by Stuttgart Designers into a Vibrant Learning Space
Stuttgart University's Colorful Learning Space Transformation
The University of Stuttgart has unveiled a vibrant transformation of one of its study rooms, now known as the "Aquarium Learning Space." This once-sterile workroom has been transformed into a dynamic and colorful environment by the Ippolito Fleitz Group, a renowned architectural and interior design firm [2].
Located at Pfaffenwaldring 47, University of Stuttgart-Vaihingen, the study room underwent a monument-preserving renovation that took just over a year to complete. The project, initiated by Ingmar Kallfass, professor and institute director at the Institute for Robust Power Semiconductor Systems, aims to encourage personal exchange among students and teachers [1].
The "Aquarium Learning Space" stands out with its rich colors, featuring walls in shades of green, pink, gray, and terracotta. The interior architects, Ippolito Fleitz Group, have restored the floor, renewed the protected pastel wall colors, replaced lighting with energy-efficient LED, improved acoustics with sound-absorbing panels, and provided flexible furniture that adapts to the needs of students [2].
The study room, equipped with top-notch technology for relaxed learning, can accommodate up to 100 students. It is open for students to use with their student ID around the clock, even outside lecture times and on weekends [1].
This renovation is part of broader efforts to improve campus facilities and learning environments. For instance, new learning areas have been created in the foyer of the Audimax building, offering visual and acoustic separation for individual and group work [1]. The university aims to create more attractive and inviting campus spaces to enhance student experience and promote campus life [1].
Interestingly, the chocolate manufacturer Ritter Sport has also had new office spaces created by the architects of the Ippolito Fleitz Group. The "Aquarium Learning Space" specifically emphasizes a colorful and engaging atmosphere, unlike typical study rooms, showcasing the architectural and interior design expertise of the Ippolito Fleitz Group [2].
The photo gallery of the revived study room is now open for visitors, offering a glimpse into the university's commitment to fostering creative and collaborative learning spaces. [2][5]
