Tragic Conclusion

In a quiet residential neighbourhood, a serene pond was once home to a charming family of ducks. However, an unexpected event has caused a stir among the residents, as the ducks mysteriously vanished.

The peaceful coexistence of the ducks and their human neighbours was disrupted when an unidentified individual decided to abruptly halt the neighbourhood action aimed at caring for the ducks. This decision left many residents disappointed and confused, as a consensus had been reached to allow the ducks to stay, with some residents taking the initiative to provide for their needs.

One of the residents, Lutz Mehlhorn, took it upon himself to step up and ensure the ducks were well-fed and had a fresh water supply. His dedication to the ducks sparked new quality neighbourly conversations among residents, as they discussed the ducks' wellbeing and the importance of community responsibility towards nature.

Mehlhorn, a thoughtful observer of human behaviour, concluded that some people are unwilling to accept even small restrictions to their daily status quo, even if it means harming nature. He questioned how people can tackle big challenges if they act in the world like the person who drove the ducks against community wishes.

The ducks' absence left the once bustling pond lifeless, with the water no longer moving and the fenced-off property for rearing, the water tank, and the two chairs for evening observation of the ducks standing empty. The community's euphoria turned to almost hysterical rejection due to hygiene concerns about the ducks.

In an attempt to find answers, residents made cautious inquiries and investigations. However, their efforts were often met with shrugs or symbolic textless messages, leaving the mystery of the ducks' disappearance unsolved.

Despite the sudden disappearance of the ducks, the community remains hopeful. Two young ducks hatched in early June, led by an experienced wild duck, and the community is planning the ducks' flight path after several weeks of gentle rearing. The neighbourhood, though divided, continues to learn and grow from this experience, with Mehlhorn implying that such behaviour is likely indicative of a lack of community-orientation, which can have negative effects on people, society, and nature.

The lack of community unity was further emphasized when some residents chose to disregard the shared lifestyle of coexisting with the ducks, even opting to neglect the home-and-garden features set up for the ducks' care. This careless action also extended to pets, as it revealed a disregard for all forms of life in their residential community.
