In a significant boost for rural communities, the Scottish Land Fund has awarded over £2.7 million to eight projects across Scotland. The funding, provided by the Scottish government and delivered in partnership by the National Lottery Community Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, aims to support the development of affordable housing, economic growth, and community facilities.

One of the recipient projects is the Kingsbarns Community Development Trust, which plans to establish a community hub consisting of rooms to let, a pub, café, and community shop. The Trust has been granted funding to bring this vision to life.

In Edinburgh, Corstorphine Community Centre will now be able to own Westfield House, thanks to a £960,000 grant. With the funding, the centre will make internal improvements to better serve its community.

Another recipient, the Tayvallich Initiative, will use its £565,608 award to buy land in Argyll & Bute for the purpose of creating housing for affordable rent and promoting the use of Rural Housing Burdens. Martin Mellor, Chair of the Tayvallich Initiative, expressed his gratitude, stating that the award will enable the initiative to move forward with plans to create housing and promote rural housing policies.

The Great Bernera Community Development Trust will convert a vacant industrial building into a social enterprise hub, while the Bute Community Land Company will install a carpark to improve accessibility on the Isle of Bute.

The Eday Partnership, meanwhile, will provide affordable housing on the island of Eday, and the Papay Development Trust will acquire two houses on the island of Papa Westray for affordable rent.

Finally, Evanton Community Trust is set to purchase land adjacent to the community-owned Victoria Diamond Jubilee Hall, allowing them to fundraise for an extension and expanded community support.

The Scottish Land Fund reopened to applications in April 2016, and both the National Lottery Community Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have extensive experience of helping communities to acquire and develop their assets for over a decade. However, the specific contributors to the eight selected projects under the Scottish Land Fund and the reopening date of the fund are not provided in the available search results.

These projects represent a significant investment in Scotland's rural communities, providing much-needed facilities, housing, and economic opportunities. As these projects progress, it is hoped that they will serve as models for other rural communities seeking to improve their own prospects.
