Strolling through Twelve Greenhouse Rooms - A Thousand Blooming Tulips in the Yard

The Courtyard Garden at Garden Ulbrich, a charming oasis in the heart of Germany, is currently ablaze with colour as over 1000 tulips bloom, adding a splash of vibrancy that will last until the summer planting begins.

This enchanting space, named after its 1950s-style gate sourced from an antique dealer in Unterburg, has been meticulously crafted and maintained by Marcus Vogel and Thorsten Ulbrich. The garden rooms they've created and continually adorn are a testament to their dedication and passion.

As you enter the Courtyard Garden, you'll find yourself drawn towards the end of the tulip bed, where a cozy seating area awaits. Here, a Sittinghurst bench and two chairs invite you to sit and soak in the ambiance, further enhanced by several iron decorative elements on the table.

The seating area is nestled beside a majestic amphora on a pedestal, a replacement for the old fountain that once stood there. This amphora, typically found in England or Holland, adds an air of elegance to the space.

The Courtyard Garden was once the entrance to a garden villa with 12 rooms, and today, it continues to impress with its intricate design. The stone slabs forming the path were cast by Thorsten Ulbrich's grandfather decades ago, adding a touch of history to each step you take.

In the side beds, you'll find a variety of flora that not only adds to the garden's beauty but also attracts bees. Ornamental rhubarb, bee-friendly peonies, a Japanese flowering cherry, and a white-leaved pear can all be spotted here.

The hedge behind the seating group blocks the open view into the next room, inviting visitors to guess and peek through the branches. Interestingly, the boxwood had to make way for a low-growing taxus variety named Renke's Little Green.

Each autumn, 1000 tulip bulbs are planted in the garden, ensuring a spectacle of blooms year after year. This year, predominantly white, red, and yellow tulips are blooming, and next year's plan includes shades of pink and lilac.

The idea to divide the 8000 sq m plot into 12 themed gardens came from an article titled 'A Garden Like a Villa'. This vision has certainly been realised at Garden Ulbrich, where each garden offers a unique and enchanting experience.

The garden will be open to visitors during the open garden days on 11/12.05.2024. An advertisement for these events is provided, inviting everyone to come and witness the blooming wonders for themselves. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and charm of Garden Ulbrich's Courtyard Garden.
