Schneverdingen is set to renovate its 40-year-old leisure facility, the FZB, which currently consumes the most energy in the city, along with the Old School. The renovation, accompanied by architects Martin Menzel from Rotenburg and Andreas Jung from the municipal building authority, will transform the FZB into a three-part complex, expanding the existing facility.

The FZB's renovation includes the creation of an additional 215 square meters by a connecting building, making it a multi-generational house. After the renovation, the multi-generational house will move to Auf dem Eck 2. The citizens' hall will also undergo a reorientation to better utilize the space and will have special fire protection requirements.

The youth area will see significant changes, with the stage being widened to provide more playing space and improve the view from the side seats. The kitchen in the youth area will be enlarged, with a focus on cooking together for pedagogical and practical reasons. The woodworking shop will be replaced by a media room for children and young people.

The citizens' hall will serve dual purposes, hosting baby gymnastics during the day and functioning as a backstage area for artists in the evening. A training room for language lessons will also be set up in the citizens' hall area.

The energy supply for the renovated FZB will be secured by a heat pump and photovoltaic panels on the roof. The heat pump is likely to be a ground-source heat pump. The city of Schneverdingen will receive subsidies for the renovation, with 1.8 million euros from the funding budget "vibrant centers" for the renewal of the citizens' hall area, and 1.45 million euros for the renovation of the youth area fixed.

Councilor Carsten Gevers (Greens) has criticized the black roofs, expressing a desire for photovoltaic installations or green roofs in the sketch. However, Mayor Meike Moog-Steffens is pleased with the flat roofs, as she wants the building to retain its character.

The city hopes for a swift processing of the building application so that the gutting can start at the beginning of the year. The building authority is now working intensively on the final version of the building application for the FZB. Despite the fixed funds for the renovation of the youth area, an application for an increase due to expected cost increases is running for the renewal of the citizens' hall area.

In conclusion, the renovation of Schneverdingen's FZB promises to create a more sustainable, expansive, and versatile leisure facility for the city's residents, with a focus on energy efficiency, community engagement, and pedagogical value.
