Artistic Graffiti Workshop in Saarlouis Empowers Young Talents

In early July 2025, the European city of Saarlouis hosted a unique event that offered young people a chance to unleash their creative potential. The event, held on the old Globus parking deck, was a graffiti workshop led by renowned street artist Colin Kaesekamp, also known as "Cone The Weird."

Cone The Weird, born in Munich in 1979, has made a name for himself with his thought-provoking artworks, which have been exhibited in numerous cities including Paris, Detroit, Austin (Texas), Berlin, Basel, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, and Montpellier. His latest project in Saarlouis was facilitated by the Institute for Contemporary Art in Saarlouis and the collaboration between the artist and the city was initiated by the Jugendbüro der Europastadt Saarlouis (Youth Office) and the local market leader at Globus Saarlouis, Oliver Kirch.

The theme for the graffiti artworks was "Space," and the young participants were encouraged to create their own unique designs. Before spraying their artworks, they sketched their motifs with chalk on the parking deck. Safety measures such as wearing respiratory masks and gloves were taught during the workshop to ensure the safety of all participants.

Mayor Carsten Quirin joined the group of young artists and expressed his enthusiasm for their talent. He also thanked market leader Oliver Kirch and Sabine Schmitt for making the event possible. Oliver Kirch provided cold drinks and sandwiches for everyone's well-being.

The workshop was part of an event aimed at providing young people with a space for artistic expression and raising awareness for the protection of historical and city-shaping buildings. The old Globus parking deck, scheduled for demolition later this year, served as a poignant reminder of the transient nature of urban spaces and the importance of preserving the city's heritage.

The participants agreed on the theme "Space" for their graffiti artworks, and their creations received positive feedback from all involved. This workshop not only provided a platform for young artists to showcase their talents but also promoted contemporary street art culture in Saarlouis, fostering creativity and encouraging awareness about the preservation of the city's historic buildings.
