Simplify the process of washing your pet dog with handy advice from a seasoned training professional.
Dogs, much like their human counterparts, can benefit from a good bath, especially when they've rolled around in mud or wet conditions. However, it's essential to approach dog bathing with care, especially for larger breeds and puppies, as they won't stay small forever.
In a recent Instagram post, expert trainer Zak George shared advice on how to make bathtime easier for both dogs and their parents. One key takeaway is to wait until you have enough time before washing your dog. Rushing through the process can lead to stress for your pet and potential mishaps for you.
Bathing a dog too frequently is not recommended, as it can harm their coat and skin. Instead, it's best to wait until your dog is visibly dirty or smelly. If you know you've got a work call soon, need to collect your children from school, or are expecting visitors, it may be best to hold off until you've got a little more time.
Zak George also advises being mindful of potential water leaks from the shower head and sudden movements during bathtime. These can scare or unsettle the dog, making the process more challenging. To begin a dog bath, allow the dog to approach the shower at their own pace before turning on the water.
When it comes to choosing a shampoo, the post does not contain specific recommendations. However, there is information available on how to bathe a puppy, and for pups 12-weeks or older, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiseptic & Antifungal Shampoo could be a good option. This shampoo is suitable for sensitive skin, containing no parabens, dyes, or soap. It's also brilliant for soothing red, scaly, greasy, or smelly skin.
