Neuss Town Hall Canteen Embraces Sustainability and Regionality

The Neuss Town Hall canteen is making a significant shift towards promoting sustainability and regionality in its menu offerings. Lutz Geuenich, the canteen's owner, is spearheading this initiative by seeking out new suppliers who share the same commitment to regionality.

From Monday to Thursday, between 11 am and 2 pm, patrons can try a variety of new lunch dishes that reflect this new approach. The canteen's focus on regional produce is aimed at strengthening local agriculture and the economy.

In line with this commitment, eggs are now sourced from Küppers' poultry farm in Kaarst, a farm that opposes "chick culling." Fruit and vegetables are sourced through a Düsseldorf-based fruit wholesaler and local businesses in the area. At least one meal per day will be made entirely from regional products.

The canteen's sustainability efforts don't stop at the food. It also prioritizes sustainable food preparation and waste reduction measures. This approach aligns with sustainable and regional food practices, helping to promote ecological responsibility and support local communities.

Breakfast is served in the canteen from Monday to Friday between 7 and 10 am. To learn more about these initiatives, consider subscribing to the canteen's free newsletter. This newsletter provides in-depth information about social developments, culinary arts, art, and culture in Neuss. To confirm your subscription, check your inbox or spam folder.

It's important to note that the newsletter's privacy policy can be found on the specified link. The canteen operates under the 2-G rule, and the town hall encourages all patrons to follow the necessary health and safety guidelines.

In the coming months, the canteen's offerings will become more diverse, with a focus on regional and vegetarian meals. A weekly organic dish made from certified organic ingredients will also be offered.

By supporting the Neuss Town Hall canteen, you're not just enjoying a meal, but also contributing to a more sustainable and local food system.
