Santa Pola's novel initiative: eco-parks established for environmental preservation

Santa Pola, a coastal town on Costa Blanca South, is taking significant steps towards fostering a cleaner and greener environment. The town hall's latest initiative includes the installation of additional bins adapted for people with disabilities on Portus Ilicitanus avenue, near the Tourism Office.

This move is part of a broader effort by the town hall to enhance urban and coastal cleaning, sanitary infrastructure, and waste management, in response to the growing tourism in the area. The aim is to improve the overall sustainability of the town, making it more eco-friendly and appealing to visitors.

The Santa Pola Town Hall's eco-friendly projects are not limited to waste management. Scientists and recreational fishermen in the town are collaborating on the "Scientific Angler Tagging Tour," an eco-friendly marine research project focusing on sustainable fishing and marine conservation. Additionally, research groups like those from the Multidisciplinary Institute for Environmental Science (IMEM) are active in Santa Pola, contributing to environmental biochemistry and marine biodiversity knowledge, which can inform sustainable management practices.

One of the most notable aspects of Santa Pola's eco-friendly initiatives is the introduction of "eco-parks," mini recycling stations placed strategically around the town. These eco-parks, now present in Aspe de Playa Lisa, Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente plaza, Albacete avenue, and soon on Portus Ilicitanus avenue, provide citizens with the opportunity to recycle specific waste like light bulbs, batteries, CDs, DVDs, and electronic devices.

Moreover, the town is implementing a service for businesses to call and collect their carton and paper waste, preventing overfilling of regular bins. The town's eco-friendly initiatives also include providing specialized waste disposal options for citizens and businesses, such as the new bins for businesses that aim to manage their carton and paper waste separately, reducing the amount thrown away in regular bins.

To cater to the needs of citizens with reduced mobility or disabilities, the town will also provide bins adapted for people with disabilities, featuring a manual handle instead of a foot pedal.

The town's projects have already resulted in the replacement of old trash bins and the acquisition of beach cleaning machinery, marking a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable Santa Pola. For the latest status of local municipal eco-friendly waste and sanitation initiatives, consulting Santa Pola’s municipal government or local environmental agencies directly might provide more detailed and updated information beyond what is currently publicly indexed.

The Scientific Angler Tagging Tour, a collaboration between scientists and recreational fishermen in Santa Pola, is an eco-friendly marine research project that combines science and environmental-science, focusing on sustainable fishing, marine conservation, and lifestyle choices that promote sustainability.
  2. In addition to enhancing waste management, the town's eco-friendly projects extend to home-and-garden initiatives, as evidenced by the introduction of eco-parks for recycling specific waste, and the provision of bins adapted for people with disabilities, fostering a greener lifestyle for all residents.
