Increased Demand for Luxury Labubu Toy Monsters

Specialists are now analyzing the growing market for Labubu monster dolls, which have gained prominence on online marketplaces and amongst unauthorized vendors. These soft toy characters have become a common sight in women's handbags, with many young girls sporting these distinctive accessories on the streets.

Seventh-grader Kira Davidenko from Krasnodar is among the trend's enthusiasts. She discovered Labubu through social media and was instantly captivated. These coveted items, purchased by her mother and received with delight, have become a popular school trend, with both genuine and counterfeit versions in circulation.

The popularity of these plush elves has surged dramatically in recent months, leading to extended wait times for purchases. Comparing figures from April, sales have increased by a factor of 13. As a result, counterfeit versions have surfaced to cater to the heightened demand.

Typical Labubu toys can be found for around 3,000 rubles, but the average purchase price hovers around 50,000 rubles per item. The majority of people aim to acquire limited and rare series, with the most sought-after colors being blue, pink, and beige.

Labubu was first created by artist Kasim Lung in 2019. His concept revolves around elf girls living in a magical forest who enjoy playful pranks. The toy design is influenced by the aesthetics of Scandinavian myths.

Marketers have effectively tapped into consumer psychology by introducing the element of surprise with blind boxes, in which buyers receive a package without knowing its contents. Additionally, the toys' distinctive appearance appeals to many as opposed to typical dolls. Ekaterina Boratoni, founder of a PR production and advertising agency, explained, "The marketers have utilized some of the most triggering tools, the first being surprise, as these toys come in blind boxes."

Users of social media platforms create entertaining videos featuring the elf toys, reminisce about past accessories, and create new additions. New contenders are already emerging on marketplaces vying for the current audience's favor.
