Restoration of exceptional artistry and size unveiled at the Cotswolds farmhouse, now available for sale by Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

In the heart of the picturesque Cotswolds, a historic 18th-century farmhouse known as Kitesbridge Farm has recently been put up for sale. The property, which once inspired poet John Betjeman, has been the residence of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi for a brief period before being listed at an asking price of £22.5 million.

The couple, who are known for their penchant for 'flipping houses', purchased Kitesbridge Farm in 2024 for around £15 million, significantly above the initial listing price of £12.5 million. Their decision to make it their full-time home came shortly after their purchase, with the couple quickly acquiring another estate nearby to accommodate Portia de Rossi's need for horse stabling.

During their tenure, extensive renovations were carried out, transforming the farmhouse into a contemporary rural retreat. The workforce, consisting of around 70 builders and craftspeople, completed the project in just four and a half months. The result is a stylish, modernised farmhouse with 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and a host of luxurious amenities spread across its 43 acres.

The house, centrally located within its grounds, is arranged in an L-shape, with further buildings creating a central courtyard garden. The huge kitchen-diner boasts a TV large enough to be measured in square feet, while the green boot room, adorned with floral wallpaper on walls and ceiling, adds a touch of traditional charm.

Outdoor spaces at Kitesbridge Farm have been landscaped to maintain a natural and organic feel, with kitchen gardens, lawns, paddocks, and areas perfect for al fresco dining and living. The property also features a fully-equipped gym, a pool, and a helicopter hangar that could be converted into a padel court for exercise and leisure.

The gardens at Kitesbridge Farm have been lovingly restored, with a focus on preserving the farm's pastoral beauty. The house was initially estimated to be a 12- to 18-month restoration project, but DeGeneres and de Rossi expedited the process, turning the farm into an enchanting and secluded rural retreat in a matter of months.

Penny Churchill, who wrote about Kitesbridge Farm last year, praised it as 'every bit as magical as the pastoral scene evoked by Betjeman'. The agent described the house as 'ingeniously transformed into an enchanting and secluded rural retreat'.

Despite living at Kitesbridge Farm for just about a month full-time, DeGeneres and de Rossi have decided to sell the property, aiming for a substantial profit. This sale reflects their pattern of frequently changing homes driven by aesthetic preferences and a lifestyle of flipping properties. As DeGeneres herself has mentioned, they move when they "get a little bored" with a home’s "aesthetic."

With Kitesbridge Farm now on the market, this historic property continues to evoke the charm and beauty of the Cotswolds, ready for its next chapter.

The couple, who have a keen interest in investing in real-estate and 'flipping' homes, purchased Kitesbridge Farm in 2024 and through extensive renovations transformed it into a contemporary rural retreat. This stylish, modernized farmhouse, even with its 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and luxurious amenities spread across its 43 acres, can be found within a unique home-and-garden setting, presenting opportunities for lifestyle enhancement and smart finance ventures.
