Resort Amilla Fushi selects a Sustainability Specialist
As a new decade begins, luxury resort Amilla Fushi in the Maldives has announced a major focus on sustainability and the environment. The resort, located in the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, is renowned for its stunning marine life and is a significant location for manta rays, snorkelling, and diving.
Victoria Kruse, appointed as the Sustainability Manager at Amilla Fushi, is driving and developing an ambitious program of eco initiatives throughout 2020. Kruse, who returned to the Maldives in October 2019 after two and a half years at Six Senses Fiji, has a proven track record in sustainability and environmental management. At Six Senses Fiji, she was responsible for running the Wellness Kitchen and instigated a program of homemade bitters, probiotic drinks, and tonic waters, as well as developed a range of gluten-free recipes.
Amilla Fushi's sustainability initiatives aim to create an eco-conscious experience and reduce the resort's environmental impact. The new initiatives include a focus on eco-tourism and marine conservation, aligning with the Maldives' focus on these areas. The resort's location in the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll enhances its potential for eco-tourism and marine conservation.
One of the key initiatives is the introduction of a 'Living Cocktail Menu' serving homemade probiotic beverages such as ginger beer and kombucha. Work is underway to expand Amilla's organic garden to yield substantial crops of fresh, island-grown produce. These initiatives are designed to support the Maldives' marine life and ecosystems, and Amilla Fushi aims to lead the way with eco-tourism and marine conservation work in the Maldives.
Amilla Fushi's sustainability initiatives also aim to inform guests about steps to make greener lifestyle choices. The resort is committed to preserving the Maldives' unique marine environment and biodiversity, and the new initiatives are part of a broader effort to promote sustainable tourism in the region.
With Victoria Kruse at the helm, Amilla Fushi is poised to make a significant contribution to the Maldives' marine conservation efforts. The new sustainability initiatives at Amilla Fushi are a testament to the resort's commitment to environmental responsibility and its dedication to creating a sustainable future for the Maldives.
