Refurbishment effort amounting to £2.5 million concludes successfully in Leicester
The town of Shepshed has seen a significant transformation with the completion of a £2.5 million regeneration project in its Market Place. Led by Charnwood Borough Council, the improvements have made the area more accessible, safe, and versatile, attracting a steady flow of footfall.
Cllr Jewel Miah, leader of Charnwood Borough Council, expressed his pleasure with the project's completion, stating that the changes will have a positive impact on the town. The upgrades include the addition of new car parking spaces, seating, bicycle parking facilities, and an array of trees and plantings. The pavements in Market Place and nearby Brook Street have been upgraded and expanded with soft landscaping elements to increase accessibility.
The council has worked closely with the town council, town team, local businesses, and residents throughout the process, ensuring a collaborative approach to the project. The scheme places accessibility and flexibility at the fore, ensuring the space can be used for a variety of purposes.
Pick Everard, an award-winning independent property, construction, and infrastructure consultancy, was responsible for the successful completion of the project. Matt Hall, director at Pick Everard, stated that the transformation will generate increased footfall for local businesses and make the area more attractive to people.
Beyond Shepshed and Leicester, Pick Everard has been involved in several notable regeneration projects. In Edgware, they contributed to the structural engineering for a £1.7 billion masterplan transforming the town centre. In Atherstone, they were involved in the regeneration of a former TNT office building into affordable flats and homes. In Leicester, they worked on the transformation of heritage factory buildings into modern workspaces. And in Yorkshire and Humber, they have been associated with award-winning residential projects. These examples illustrate Pick Everard’s expertise not only in traditional building regeneration but also in comprehensive urban regeneration masterplans, heritage building revitalization, and sustainable residential schemes.
Cllr Jewel Miah believes the changes are beneficial for residents and hopes that the improvements will boost trade in the region. The completion of the project is expected to bring a new lease of life to the town centre, enabling it to host new events and market stalls, further enhancing its appeal. With its improved accessibility, safety, and versatility, Shepshed's Market Place is now a pedestrian-friendly space that promises to attract visitors and support local businesses for years to come.
