If you've landed here straight from a Stroll Thru Life, I'm ecstatic to have you! I admire Marty's Christmas decorating skills, and this year, she nailed it with her natural elements and neutral colors.
Let's dive in!
Natural Wood Sets the Tone
To start, I've opted for a 7.5' flocked, fuller, and better-shaped Christmas tree, making a significant improvement from our previous tree. This year's tree flawlessly complements the decor, thanks to its stunning shape and easy decorating process.
If you're curious about an innovative method I discovered for fluffing the tree, come say "hi" to red-headed Elsa and get all the details (coughfind the article herecough).
Moving on, my choice to integrate red accents is deeply rooted in family tradition, but white-washed wooden angel wing ornaments inspired me to incorporate the color scheme of red, white, and natural wood-toned decorations.
Red, white, and wood: a Triumphant Trio
Take a complete tour of the tree, explore my unique tree decorating recipe, and learn about my unconventional topless approach (ahem yeah, that's what she saidahem) to this year's Christmas tree here.
Kickstart your holiday season with homely and budget-friendly decor ideas, lessons, and collaborative DIY projects with step-by-step tutorials. Allow me to help you create a Spotify-worthy home filled with joy and functionality for you and your kin.
Once you've warmed up with a peek at my porch – where I kept the decorations cohesive with the themes on the inside of my home – let's head on through the foyer and delve into our inviting family room.
A Symphony of Decorations with a Modern Twist
Stepping into the room, you'll find our newly acquired, stunningly decorated Christmas tree, which brightens the space and leaves a lasting impression.
Without diverting your attention from the tree, I've flavored the fireplace area with an enticing garland, using faux greenery, flocked greenery, and a natural colored garland filled with tiny leaves. Incorporating wooden snowflakes, wooden candlesticks, wooden Christmas trees, and red accents, I've managed to maintain a modern yet traditional aesthetic.
The round mirror above the fireplace boasts an asymmetrical garland featuring a combination of garlands dotted with bright red berries, creating a modern yet traditional vibe.
Maintaining simplicity, I've decorated the hearth with a wooden candlestick and red mercury glass lanterns. I have a soft spot for red mercury glass – it's functional art that can be mixed and matched with various themes throughout the year.
Several thoughtfully wrapped gifts with my signature red and white color scheme enliven the corner of the hearth, adding a touch of whimsy. These wrapped gifts act as festive decorations and serve their actual purpose!
Covering the long, bare wall adjacent to the fireplace with flocked wreaths adorned with red berries and a strip of the same ribbon used on the tree helps provide a homey feel. The wreaths effortlessly fill the space above my husband's chair, complementing the overall decor.
Ramping Up the Festive Feel
If you're sitting on the couch or upholstered coffee table on the opposite wall, you'll take notice of the cozy and inviting vibe. I've used my DIY riser on the sofa table, behind the couch, to display a simple vignette incorporating a wood horse and frosted pine picks collectively reflecting the tree and fireplace themes.
If you noticed the horse decorating the tree for a brief moment, don't fret – it was on a temporary visit, and it's now happily settled on the sofa table.
A vignette allows for an easy way to decorate a space in just ten minutes or less. On one end of my coffee table, I've prepared a festive vignette by filling a large, round wood tray with various candle sizes and frosty faux greenery. Adding a touch of red, I've tucked in a few red tree ornaments – I always have bags of red glass ornaments stashed away; they're incredibly versatile decorations!
Our family room for this Christmas season is complete, and we hope you feel inspired to create your own festive and cozy space.
