Commemorating the anniversary of the expansion of the Pressnitztalbahn railway line - Railway line Pressnitztalbahn marks milestone - prolongation of the route
The Pressnitztalbahn, a popular narrow-gauge railway in the picturesque Ore Mountains, is set for an exciting expansion by 2030. The planned extension aims to reconnect the historic route along the narrow valley of the Pressnitz River, restoring the full original length of the railway for heritage and tourist purposes.
Currently, the Pressnitztalbahn trains mainly operate on weekends and holidays, running for approximately 100 days a year. However, with the extension, the railway service is expected to become more accessible, enhancing the visitor experience in the region.
The extension involves extending the railway line from its current terminus at Steinbach back towards the town of Jöhstadt. The remaining work for the Pressnitztalbahn to reach Oberschmiedeberg, approximately 1.5 kilometers away, is being intensified. Notably, the station in Oberschmiedeberg is already complete.
The Pressnitztalbahn is operated on a voluntary basis, with a dedicated team of volunteers ensuring the smooth running of the service. Last year, around 34,000 people used the Pressnitztalbahn service, demonstrating its popularity among locals and tourists alike.
Jürgen Herold, a member of the board of the Pressnitztalbahn interest group, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This extension will not only revive and preserve this cultural and historical transportation line but also offer a unique and immersive experience for visitors."
Completion of the extension is targeted around the year 2030, making it an exciting prospect for both locals and tourists alike. The Pressnitztalbahn extension project is a testament to the commitment to preserving historical railway lines and promoting sustainable tourism in the region.
