New LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart Sets Bring Brick-Built Racing Home
Get ready to bring the excitement of Mario Kart races into your living room with the new LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart sets, set to launch on January 1, 2025. These interactive, buildable playsets blend physical LEGO building with digital elements, offering a unique gaming experience for fans of all ages.
The new Mario Kart sets were officially unveiled by the LEGO Group on August 1, 2025, with the Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart set priced around $55 leading the charge. These sets are designed to immerse players in the iconic Mario Kart universe, allowing them to create their own courses and race against their friends and family.
Simon Kent, Design Director at the LEGO Group, expressed his excitement about the new sets, saying, "We are thrilled to turbo-charge the LEGO Super Mario universe with the new Mario Kart sets. These sets offer a fun way to experience the Mario Kart universe in brick play."
The sets feature a range of character and vehicle builds, including karts for Mario, Bowser, Wario, King Boo, Yoshi, Shy Guy, and more, each with unique builds and play features. For example, the LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi set (72034) comes with Baby Mario in his Biddybuggy and Baby Luigi in his Tri-Speeder, ready for a Balloon Battle.
The LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set (72036) includes Baby Peach in her Wild Wiggler kart, Lemmy in the Landship kart, and Toad on a standard bike. The set also comes with an obstacle-filled course and a starting gate, made up of 823 pieces.
For those who want to customize their own kart, there's the 390-piece build in the LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Yoshi Bike set. The set includes a Light-Blue Yoshi toy figure, a shell item, and a bike.
The new sets also feature characters like Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach. Each set includes vibrant characters, customizable karts, and unique track items. There are 6 buildable balloons in this 321-piece set.
In addition to the Mario Kart sets, the LEGO Group has also announced three new LEGO Animal Crossing sets: LEGO Animal Crossing Stargazing with Celeste (77053), LEGO Animal Crossing Leif's Caravan & Garden Shop (77054), and LEGO Animal Crossing Able Sisters Clothing Shop (77055). These sets will allow fans to continue creating and exploring their own Animal Crossing villages and fun in brick play.
The new LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart sets are available for purchase via LEGO.com, LEGO stores, and select leading retailers from January 1, 2025. More information about the sets can be found on www.lego.com/themes/super-mario/mario-kart/about and www.lego.com/themes/animal-crossing/about.
The LEGO Group will also be exhibiting at gamescom 2025 (August 20-24, 2025) in Cologne, Germany, but there is no specific announcement or new reveal tied directly to gamescom besides their presence. Thus, the new Mario Kart LEGO sets are already released before the gamescom event, and no new features or sets have been detailed there as of now.
These sets allow digital play by interacting with LEGO Mario, Luigi, or Peach figures (not included). The digital play includes iconic Mario Kart audio and visual effects, race-starting, horn-honking, kart-drifting, and gliding sounds from the game. Players can also use these characters to scan Item Boxes for extra coins and score boosts.
