Programming-Centric City 2025: Emphasis on Coding!
Get ready for an exhilarating 21-day cycling adventure in Nordhorn, as the City Cycling 2025 is now open for registrations! From September 5th to 25th, 2025, the Grafschaft Bentheim region will be transformed into a cycling paradise.
The Cycling Challenge aims to highlight the importance of cycling in daily mobility and motivate people to switch to more climate-friendly alternatives to the car. Participants are invited to collect as many cycling kilometers as possible throughout the event.
For those who prefer not to record their kilometers online or via app, "Fietsenprotocols" for manual entries are available at the town hall.
The event offers a wide variety of tour programs, organised in collaboration with partner organisations. Among the scheduled tours, you can find an architectural tour, a nature tour, a city council tour, and even a fair trade bike tour.
For instance, on Monday, September 22nd, at 5 PM, the bike traffic concept for Nordhorn is being updated, with the tour starting from Library square. On Wednesday, September 23rd, at 5 PM, Gallery director Thomas Niemeyer will present various artworks of the open-air museum "kunstwegen" during the "Kunstwegen tour". The starting point is the Municipal Gallery.
The morning kick-off tour goes to the community center Bookholt and is followed by a small breakfast. The evening bike ride on Thursday, September 11th, starts at 5 PM and is titled "Learn about energy projects - nvb bike tour". The starting point is the NVB customer center, Gildkamp.
On Tuesday, September 16th, at 3 PM, the prevention team of the police will inform about traffic safety, current traffic regulations, and protection against criminal offenses. Registration is required.
On Friday, September 19th, at 3 PM, the Senior Citizens' Council of the city of Nordhorn invites participants to a cozy tour to the Lohner leisure lake. On Wednesday, September 17th, at 5 PM, there is a nature tour with the city's environmental officer Gerwin Rademaker, starting from Library square and going through to Bimolten.
The "Fair trade bike tour" takes place on Friday, September 12th, starting at 4 PM. The starting point is FABI, Steinmaate. For the kick-off, a meeting at the "Malle Mill" in Lage with the Cycling Challenge participants from Neuenhaus is scheduled, with a shared snack.
Attractive prizes will be drawn among all participants. The collected, anonymized route data will be made available to the city of Nordhorn as part of a research project. The annual bike challenge ends with a closing tour that includes grilling, starting from Nordhorn Town Hall and ending at the South Station of the Volunteer Fire Department Nordhorn, on Thursday, September 25th, at 5 PM.
