Apple Set to Upgrade HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K in Late 2025
Apple is rumoured to be releasing an upgraded version of the HomePod mini and a storage-enhanced Apple TV 4K towards the end of 2025.
The HomePod mini 2, the anticipated successor to the original HomePod mini, which was first launched five years ago, is expected to be unveiled during Apple's fall launch cycle, potentially before the iPhone 17 announcement. The new device is rumoured to maintain the same physical design as its predecessor but may introduce new colour options, including Starlight or Sky Blue.
Under the hood, the HomePod mini 2 is expected to feature an upgraded chip from Apple's S-series, such as the S9 or S10, improving computational audio and responsiveness. The device is also rumoured to support Wi-Fi 6E and an upgraded Ultra Wideband 2 chip for better connectivity and enhanced spatial awareness.
While the new HomePod mini is likely to focus on integration with Apple's smart home ecosystem, it is unlikely to support the new "Apple Intelligence" feature seen in other devices. However, the new software (HomePod Software 26) may bring new Wi-Fi settings and a long-requested crossfade feature for music playback.
Meanwhile, the Apple TV 4K, currently equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, is rumoured to upgrade to the A17 Pro chip, doubling its current storage space from 4GB to 8GB. This upgrade could make the Apple TV 4K more powerful and capable, enhancing its performance and user experience.
It's also worth noting that the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are also rumoured to launch in 2025, potentially using the S11 chip.
No official announcements have been made yet, but the accumulation of credible rumours and code references suggest a late 2025 launch for both the HomePod mini 2 and the Apple TV 4K, with modest design continuity and meaningful internal upgrades.
The current HomePod mini is available for $99 at Apple, while the current Apple TV 4K model can be purchased for $149.99 at Best Buy. The new HomePod mini is rumoured to drop before the end of 2025, making it an exciting time for Apple fans and home entertainment enthusiasts alike.
