Portable High-Pressure Cleaner with Built-In Battery Undergoing Evaluation

When it comes to cleaning outdoor spaces, leaving a messy terrace, walkway, or garden is no longer an option. But what if you need to clean these areas without a power outlet? That's where battery-powered high-pressure cleaners come in handy. However, not all battery-powered devices are created equal. So, let's take a closer look at some top-rated models on the market.

In a recent test performed by the magazine "Self is the Man" (July 2025 issue) in collaboration with TÜV Rheinland, here's what they found:

Detailed Test Results

Five of the seven tested high-pressure cleaners with battery received the "good" grade. One model received the "satisfactory" grade, while one model received the "insufficient" grade due to the risk of injury caused by a short spray lance.

Leading the pack were the following top-performing devices:

  1. Ego Power+ (56V HPW2000E) with a grade of 1.6 (approx. 1460 euros)
  2. Makita (40V, HW001GZ) with a grade of 1.8 (approx. 890 euros)
  3. Stihl (REA 100 PLUS) with a grade of 1.9 (approx. 540 euros)

Two price-performance winners also made the list:

  • Stanley Fatmax (V20, SFMCPW1500) received a grade of 2.2 and costs around 600 euros, including battery and charger.
  • Bosch (Universal Aquatac 36V-100) received a grade of 2.4 and costs a total of 440 euros.

The price range for the seven tested devices varied greatly, making it essential to understand what you need in a high-pressure cleaner before purchasing. The cheapest model cost 130 euros, while the most expensive device cost approximately 1,580 euros. The price indications provided are for the cleaner, battery, and charger.

Model Considerations When Buying

While price is a crucial factor, the intended use of the device is just as important. The test models had to clean various surfaces, including:

  • Wheels
  • Algae-covered limestone slabs
  • Concrete composite paving stones with lichen

Performance differences were significant in terms of water pressure, which ranged between 85 and 200 bar among the tested devices. However, the testers emphasized that the number alone does not guarantee efficient cleaning. Instead, the appropriate area of application and adjustment options should be taken into account.

Further considerations when choosing a battery-powered high-pressure cleaner include:

  • Caution should be exercised when cleaning wood, as the use of a point jet can cause the material to splinter. Some devices allow the user to adjust the jet from point to flat, making it more suitable for wood.
  • For frequent transport, choose a light and compact model, with weights ranging among the tested models from 1.6 to 22.5 kg.

A Deep Dive: What Makes a High-Pressure Cleaner Tick?

High-pressure cleaners, or pressure washers, are versatile tools designed to clean various outdoor surfaces. They are available as gas-powered, electric, and battery-powered models, with the battery-powered versions growing in popularity for their convenience and eco-friendliness.

When evaluating the performance of a high-pressure cleaner, some key factors include:

  • Pressure Rating (PSI): Higher pressure ratings often translate to increased cleaning power.
  • Flow Rate (GPM): A higher flow rate allows for more efficient surface coverage.
  • Battery Life: Factoring in the battery life is essential for battery-powered models, as it determines how long you can clean without needing to recharge.
  • Weight and Portability: Choose lighter models with ergonomic handles for easier handling and transport.

Keep in mind that prices for high-pressure cleaners can vary significantly based on their type, power, and additional features. Furthermore, battery-powered models may be more expensive than electric or gas-powered alternatives, but they provide the flexibility and portability that outweigh the cost difference for many users.

For specific reviews and ratings from "Self is the Man" magazine (July 2025 issue), it's best to access their publication or website directly. Such reviews can provide valuable insights into the performance, pricing, and user experiences with these top-rated battery-powered high-pressure cleaners.

  1. Investing in a battery-powered high-pressure cleaner, such as the Ego Power+ (56V HPW2000E), can help protect workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation found in traditional power outlets, promoting a safer lifestyle at home and garden.
  2. As technology advances, high-pressure cleaners are not only limited to cleaning outdoor spaces but can also be integrated into various gadgets and home-and-garden appliances, providing versatility and convenience in maintaining a clean lifestyle.
