New toilet receives unexpected and boisterous outside disturbance: Krea fails to notice Kreath's latest bathroom upgrade.
The KREA Youth Club's innovative graffiti project has breathed new life into the Mehrgenerationenpark in Refrath, Germany, with a vibrant and captivating display that combines classic lettering with abstract elements in cheerful, bright colours.
The initiative, a collaboration between local authorities, youth organisations, and community residents, began as an effort to revitalise public spaces while providing a constructive outlet for youth creativity. The project was inspired by the broader urban art movement, which emphasises the positive potential of graffiti as a legitimate art form.
Two brothers, Paul (16) and Tom (14) Funke from Refrath, are the creative minds behind the design of the redesigned toilet facility at the park. The artwork on the toilet features the word "Respect" stylised as "rspct" as a central element, serving as a social statement promoting respect as the basis for peaceful coexistence.
The KREA Youth Club, a place where young people learn graffiti under the guidance of artist and coach Puya Bagheri, aims to instil self-confidence, expressive power, and self-efficacy in its members through creative activities. Puya Bagheri and Sigrid Brenner, leaders of the KREA Youth Club, view this project as an example of how hip-hop art empowers young people to express themselves effectively.
The artwork also includes the words "Love, Peace, and Happiness" on the train side, serving as a call for a peaceful and loving coexistence and a positive life feeling. The project has been well-received by Winfried Krux, chairman of the Bürger- und Heimatverein Refrath e.V., who considers the artwork on the toilet facility a very successful contribution.
The Day in GL newsletter is sent to inboxes every morning at 7:07 AM, and the KREA Youth Club's project has been featured prominently in the latest edition. The toilet at the Mehrgenerationenpark in Refrath has been installed, and its colourful graffiti adornment has become a popular attraction for park visitors.
The KREA Youth Club's contribution to the beautification of the Wickenpath district has been warmly welcomed by the Bürger- und Heimatverein Refrath. The project is an impressive example of how creative activity can foster participation in social processes and serve as a catalyst for positive change in the community.
The KREA Youth Club's innovative graffiti project, which has revitalized the Mehrgenerationenpark, is also extending its influence into the home-and-garden sphere, as the Funke brothers' stylized "Respect" artwork is now a decorative addition to their own home's exterior façade. The lifestyle shift towards embracing urban art in everyday living is mirrored by the growing interest of local residents, evidenced by their requests for personalized home-and-garden graffiti designs by the KREA Youth Club members.
