Neustrelitz Zoo Seeks Public's Help to Collect 15 Tons of Chestnuts and Acorns for Winter

Neustrelitz Zoo is appealing to the public for help in collecting chestnuts and acorns for its animal residents this year. The zoo aims to gather a substantial amount to ensure its wildlife is well-fed during the upcoming winter months.

The collection drive will take place from October 6th to 10th, coinciding with the zoo's regular opening hours from 9 am to 6 pm. Zoo director Benjamin Schütze-Schulze has requested donors to make their contributions only during this specified time frame, citing limited storage capacity.

In 2025, the task of collecting chestnuts and acorns will be undertaken by NABU Mecklenburg-Strelitz. To keep donors informed, the zoo will provide regular updates on its Instagram page throughout the collection process. As a token of appreciation, donors will receive free entry to the zoo on the day of their donation.

The zoo has set a goal to collect 10 tons of chestnuts and 5 tons of acorns to ensure its wildlife has enough food to last through the winter.
