Mysterious unraveling of Braunschweig's flea market mastermind, reminiscent of pulling a magic trick.
In the heart of Brunswick, the Harz & Heide Flea Market continues to thrive, despite a few hiccups leading up to its events. Event organizer Andreas Huertler confirmed that the team, though depleted by last-minute dropouts, was fully staffed for the market.
Two team members dropped out the evening before the event, making it challenging to find replacements at such short notice. However, Huertler ensured that the team of 20, most of whom work as a side job and have experience with flea markets, was more than capable of handling the tasks at hand.
The team's primary goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere for both exhibitors and visitors. To facilitate this, they have introduced an entrance fee of one euro for visitors, a measure introduced to compensate for costs due to Corona restrictions and constant price increases. Children, however, can still enter the flea market for free.
Huertler, who works full-time for the flea market, emphasized the importance of maintaining a harmonious team environment. He steps in to calm tense situations among team members, acknowledging that they are human and have bad days.
The attendance at the flea market fluctuates between 2,500 and 7,000 visitors. The number of exhibitors is unpredictable, with around 80% of them not having registered in advance on Sunday. There is a reservation system for exhibitors to reserve spots in advance, likened to buying a movie ticket, but the flea market's unpredictable nature often means a more spontaneous atmosphere.
Preparations for the flea market begin on Tuesday afternoon, with the grounds being prepared, power connections being organized, trash cans and toilets being set up, and stalls and paths being marked with lime. The flea market begins running at 150% from 4:30 AM on the day of the event.
The Harz & Heide Flea Market in Brunswick has proven to be a successful event, with the team's dedication to creating a relaxed atmosphere for both exhibitors and visitors evident in every event. The next events are scheduled for October, including October 3rd. For more information, visit the Harz & Heide Flea Market's official website.
