Belo Horizonte's Cultural Hub, Casa Rosada Gasmig Minas, Opens Its Doors

The city of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has a new cultural centre to call its own. The Casa Rosada Gasmig Minas was inaugurated on August 16, 2025, as part of the Minas Tênis Clube's 90th anniversary celebrations.

Located on Rua da Bahia in the Lourdes neighbourhood, the Casa Rosada is a product of a partnership between the Minas Tênis Clube and Gasmig, a gas company. The centre aims to be an inclusive venue for leisure, culture, and the preservation of historical patrimony, open to the entire population of Belo Horizonte.

The Minas Tênis Clube has leased the Casa Rosada for the next 20 years. The club's president, Carlos Henrique Martins Teixeira, expressed his gratitude for the recognition Minas received from the population of Belo Horizonte and Minas Gerais. He stated that the objective is to transform the Casa Rosada into a benefit for the population.

The Casa Rosada will host permanent and temporary exhibitions that tell the history of Belo Horizonte. It will also collaborate with partner institutions like the Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto and the Public Archive to create routes and circuits that preserve and promote the city's memory.

Starting next weekend, a café at the back of the Casa Rosada will be open to the public. Some guided tours will occasionally take place on the premises before the official opening, which is expected in October this year.

The celebration of Minas Tennis Club's nine decades of history included a musical, gastronomic, and cultural program, including children's entertainment. The Ouro Preto Orchestra performed during the event, and the women's volleyball team presented a demonstration.

The event was attended by the club's board of directors, representatives from sponsoring companies Gerdau and Gasmig, and Belo Horizonte City Hall officials. The Municipal Secretary of Culture, Eliane Parreiras, mentioned that the restoration of Casa Rosada was a compensatory measure for some developments.

The Casa Rosada, an emblematic house from the end of the 1920s, will expand the cultural actions of Minas Tennis Club. It is hoped that the centre will foster dialogue with partner institutions and contribute to the preservation and promotion of Belo Horizonte's rich history and culture.
