Düsseldorf's Spectacular Firework Show in Germany - Massive Japanese fireworks featuring heavy-duty pyrotechnics ignite Düsseldorf's night sky.
Düsseldorf Set to Host Spectacular Japanese Fireworks Display
This Saturday, the city of Düsseldorf will illuminate its night sky with a vibrant display of large-caliber Japanese fireworks. Unlike European shows, these fireworks will feature intricately designed and colorful firework balls.
Hideki Kubota and Martin Schmitz, organizers of the event, explained the differences in approach. "In Japan, we focus on creating large firework balls, each a small work of art. In Europe, it's about the combinations of various items that form an overall picture," they said. The pair has been working together for approximately 35 years.
The motifs of the fireworks have evolved over the years, with new effect combinations and color transformations. However, traditional methods of production are still employed. Preparations for the event took two days and involved pyrotechnicians from Japan and about 20 German colleagues. The production of a 175-millimeter diameter shell, the largest caliber in the Düsseldorf show, takes three weeks.
Safety and local conditions, such as terrain, are considered during the choreography process. The overall concept is developed after the main theme is selected and scenes are divided.
Japanese fireworks are known for their elaborate designs and vibrant colors. For the Düsseldorf display, three pyrotechnicians from Japan joined the effort. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event, which is part of the annual Japan Day festival. The program includes singing, dancing, sports, and the Japanese fireworks as the grand finale.
The event attracts a significant number of visitors each year, reflecting the city's substantial Japanese community. Approximately 8,300 Japanese live in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, with nearly 15,000 residing in the region. The theme for this year's fireworks is "Explore Japan - A night sky full of magic."
