Majority of Yekaterinburg Residents Back Winter Fountain Lighting

A majority of Екатеринбург's residents, 52.5%, have expressed support for adorning fountains with light structures during the winter months. This comes as city authorities explore various ways to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of these public spaces.

The city has already taken steps towards this initiative. In 2024, the fountain in Yekaterinburg was upgraded to a contactless payment system, indicating a shift towards modernizing these structures. Furthermore, plans are underway to transform the fountain in the Popov Garden. Once it closes for the season, a wave-like installation will take its place on a special platform.

Looking ahead, city authorities have ambitious plans. They aim to make the fountain in the Opera and Ballet Theatre Garden operational year-round, ensuring residents and visitors can enjoy it regardless of the season. Additionally, the fountain in the dendrological park on 8th March Street will be equipped with automatic lighting that activates at dusk, providing a warm glow during the colder months.

In the spirit of the holidays, the 'Stone Flower' fountain on Truda Square will receive a festive touch. As part of the city's New Year decorations, a colorful Christmas ball will be placed in the fountain.

These initiatives reflect the city's commitment to enhancing public spaces based on resident feedback. An online survey revealed that most residents desire fountains to be decorated with light installations during the cold season. With these plans in motion, Екатеринбург is set to become even more vibrant and inviting, even in the heart of winter.
