Local Group 'House of Pigeons' Takes Over Homburg's Pigeon Care
In Homburg, the local association 'House of Pigeons Homburg' has stepped in to care for the city's animals. They've taken over two municipal lofts, renovated them, and started managing the pigeon population. This initiative showcases how local commitment can improve urban animal welfare.
Until recently, an external company handled the pigeon care, but the association has now taken the reins with the city's blessing. They've cleaned and equipped the lofts on the Forum roof and at the City Archive, providing a species-appropriate home for around 100 animals. Laura Drumm, the association's chairwoman, explains that city pigeons are domesticated animals that need care and population management.
The association has implemented practical solutions like exchanging laid eggs for dummies and caring for injured or sick animals. Deputy Mayor Nathalie Kroj praises the new cooperation, highlighting the association's high level of commitment and passion for the animals' well-being. Furthermore, they're working on a project at Homburg station to relocate a pigeon loft in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn.
The 'House of Pigeons Homburg' association has successfully taken over the care of the city's animals, demonstrating how local initiatives can improve urban animal welfare. Their species-appropriate management and dedication have been praised by the city administration, and they continue to work on improving conditions for the animals.
