Latest Update on Dörte and Tuffi's Value

The city of Barmen is embarking on an exciting new chapter as the redesign of the Werth, a key urban space, officially begins. The evening hours will see the unveiling of a 'Lightwalk', a custom-designed light and sound concept that will transform the Werth into an "Urban Theater".

The city's vision for this project is multifaceted. It aims to create a resilient infrastructure, improve stormwater management, and provide barrier-free access for people with disabilities. The redesign is a sub-project of the ISEK Barmen and is supported by federal and state funds from urban development.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mayor Uwe Schneidewind, Urban Development Chief Gunnar Ohrndorf, District Mayor Hans-Hermann Lücke, Thomas Helbig from the ISG Barmen, and representatives from "Barmen Urban". Dörte from Heckinghausen and Barmen's mascot "Tuffi" were also present, lending a festive atmosphere to the occasion.

The surface design of the Werth, decided through a public design competition in 2018, will shape approximately 9,100 square meters of concrete stone surface. The redesign will create a barrier-free, safer, and more attractive pedestrian zone. Trees will be planted, and urban furniture will be incorporated into the new design.

Tactile guidance systems will ensure accessibility for visually impaired individuals, while surface drainage will address the issue of stormwater management. The accompanying urban management Barmen Urban and the Immobilien-Standort-Gemeinschaft Barmen Werth (ISG) will plan and oversee parts of the public relations for the redesign of the Werth.

This project marks a clear, visible sign for the future of Barmen city centre. As the 'Lightwalk' illuminates the Werth, it symbolises the city's commitment to innovation and inclusivity, promising a brighter, more accessible future for all its residents and visitors.
