The beloved bakery, Bakery Doebbe, located in Duisburg-Großenbaum, is set to reopen its doors on Thursday, August 28, after a month-long closure. Since July 14, the bakery has been undergoing renovation, not just to update its equipment, but also to improve seating comfort indoors and outdoors.

In a unique move, Bakery Doebbe has commissioned a graffiti mural on its wall, facing the parking lot, which is often targeted for graffiti in the area. The bakery hopes that this artistic touch will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also deter vandalism.

Johannes Doebbe, the bakery's manager, believes that graffiti artists are less likely to deface an area that already features respected or sanctioned street art. This approach mirrors the community strategy seen in Duisburg, where initiatives such as the Graffiti Park at Blu cover nearly 800 feet and provide authorized spaces for graffiti artists, resulting in reduced vandalism and urban beautification.

The first commissioned graffiti by Bakery Doebbe was designed and applied by a professional graffiti artist. The bakery aims to achieve greater advertising effect with this unique initiative, as the giant rolls displayed outside the bakery have been attracting passersby.

A sales van will be stationed in front of the bakery from Monday to Saturday, 6 am to 3 pm, until the reopening. The selection offered by the sales van will not be the full range of the bakery, but it will provide customers with a taste of the fresh baked goods they can expect once the bakery reopens.

The Rossmann branch in the same building is also undergoing renovation and will remain closed until the end of September. The bakery hopes that the people of Duisburg will appreciate the new design and that the initiative to combat vandalism through graffiti art will be successful.

Bakery Doebbe plans to complement its renovated interior and exterior with a vibrant graffiti mural, aimed at both aesthetic enhancement and vandalism deterrence. This creative touch aligns with Duisburg's community approach, as exemplified by the Graffiti Park at Blu, promoting urban beautification and reduced vandalism.
