Bar Valette: A European Gem in Shoreditch

Bar Valette, nestled on Kingsland Road in the vibrant district of Shoreditch, offers a unique dining experience that blends French and Spanish cuisines in perfect harmony. The restaurant's exterior, a bottle-green charm, invites you into an interior that is considered yet casual, creating a relaxed atmosphere suitable for various occasions.

Founder and chef Isaac McHale, with a vision to bring together the best wild game, seafood, and meat from each of the countries mentioned in the menu, has curated an exciting fusion of influences from various regions. McHale collaborated with Azka Saiyed Design to create a light, airy, and unfussy interior, while the artwork adorning the walls is a testament to the collaboration with artists such as Stuart Davis, LACMA, the Whitney, British artist Florence Hutchings, and Nadine Kolodziey, whose works were purchased in Vienna.

The menu at Bar Valette is a celebration of simplicity, where the produce is the star of the show. Barajuans, stuffed fritters with ricotta and chard, are an example of dishes with great provenance served at Bar Valette. Other options include lamb chops, John Dory, and the fabada asturiana, a Spanish pork and beef stew. The menu also features dishes rarely seen in London, such as red mullet in green olive emulsion and Torbay prawns fried whole and served with an aioli dip.

The gâteau Basque offers notes of cinnamon and brown sugar, while the chocolate mousse is decadently dense, yet light with a layer of cream and chocolate dusting. The dish of duck fat sauté potatoes in persillade & carrot râpées, served alongside dishes like John Dory and estoficado sauce, is a delightful accompaniment.

Bar Valette prides itself on serving dishes that pay homage to intimate, unfussy dining, inspired by the cooking around Nice, Monaco, Provence, and San Sebastian. Whether you're dining solo, with friends, or on a laidback date night, Bar Valette offers a welcoming and memorable dining experience. The dishes served vary each week, ensuring a fresh and exciting culinary journey with each visit.
