Switching up the Tradition: A Hindu Group Urges Symbolic, Eco-friendly Sacrifice for Eid al-Adha with Clay Goats!

In Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu organization advocates for environmentally friendly Eid-al-Adha practices by encouraging use of clay figurines rather than live animals.

In a unique appeal, the Sanskriti Bachao Manch in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has made a call to the Muslim community to participate in eco-friendly symbolic sacrifices during the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) festival this year. The group has taken it upon themselves to prepare eco-friendly goats made of clay to symbolize the sacrifice.

Chandrashekhar Tiwari, the convener of the organization, has written a letter to Muslim religious leaders, advocating for the use of these clay goats. He argues that if eco-friendly Holi, Diwali, and Ganesh Utsav can be celebrated, why not an eco-friendly Bakrid! Tiwari stresses that eco-friendly goats should be sacrificed instead of the traditional method, which often results in the waste of thousands of gallons of water.

When asked about the concept, Tiwari spoke to ANI, saying that his organization has been crafting clay goats for Bakrid for the past four years. They have priced the eco-friendly goats at ₹1000 each. He posits that if they can celebrate eco-friendly Diwali, Holi, and Ganesh Utsav, then an eco-friendly Bakrid is well within our reach.

Tiwari emphasized the importance of society's responsibility to protect the environment and stressed that Hindus and Muslims have an equal role to play in this. He mentioned that they have already written a letter to Muslim religious leaders, informing them about the benefits of following this eco-friendly practice.

The organization has been a proponent of eco-friendly practices since its inception. Tiwari shared that they started celebrating eco-friendly Holi with cow dung cakes to save trees and opted for clay idols during Diwali and Ganesh Utsav to prevent the pollution of ponds and water bodies with immersed idols.

Tiwari concluded by emphasizing the importance of avoiding violence and applying the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against those who commit acts of cruelty against animals during the festival. He urged everyone to play their part in creating a positive impact.
