Huawei Revolutionizes Automotive Audio with Cloud-Based Master-Tuning

Huawei is revolutionising automotive audio engineering with its advanced cloud-based approach. The tech giant, led by Chief Automotive Sound & Acoustics Advisor Lars Goller, is developing a master-tuning method that combines audio measurements, psychoacoustic principles, and real-time adjustments. This innovative process is powered by Huawei's Shanghai Acoustics R&D Centre, which utilises cloud computing infrastructure to process vast acoustic datasets and run complex simulations.

Huawei's approach challenges the historical dominance of European brands in automotive audio engineering. The company's substantial R&D investment, totalling CNY 179.7 billion (approximately £20 billion / €23.4 billion) in 2024, with over CNY 60 billion dedicated to fundamental science research, enables it to push technological boundaries. The master-tuning method, spearheaded by Lars Goller, is one such example. It involves real-time wave interference pattern calculations and digital signal processing (DSP) adjustments, making it the most computationally complex feature in automotive acoustics.

The development process occurs in three testing environments, generating enormous volumes of measurement data. This data is processed and analysed using cloud computing, which provides the computational power needed to run simulations that would overwhelm local processing capabilities. The centre's ability to handle massive acoustic datasets and enable real-time audio processing sets it apart. Huawei supplies these advanced solutions to over twenty automakers, covering driver assistance, cockpit and control systems, and acoustics.

Huawei's master-tuning method, led by Lars Goller and supported by Zhang Jun, is set to transform the automotive audio landscape. By harnessing the power of cloud computing and substantial R&D investment, Huawei is challenging European dominance in this field. The company's innovative approach promises enhanced audio experiences for drivers and passengers, marking a significant step forward in automotive acoustics.
