Green Energy Network Services Announces Installation of Solar Panels on Green Roofs Across the Rhineland

In a significant step towards sustainable energy, Westenergie Netzservice GmbH has commissioned two rooftop photovoltaic (PV) plants in the Rhineland town of Euskirchen and Büllesheim. The combined area of these plants spans 569 square meters, with a total of 156 PV modules generating almost 71 kilowatt peak (kWp) of electricity [1][2][3].

These greened rooftop PV plants, as demonstrated by Westenergie Netzservice's projects, offer a unique blend of solar energy generation and green roof benefits. These advantages include energy production from renewable solar power, improved building energy efficiency, mitigation of the urban heat island effect, stormwater management, enhancement of local biodiversity, air quality improvement, and noise reduction [1].

The installation in Euskirchen, spread over an area of 359 square meters, comprises 92 modules and has an output of 41.8 kWp. To green this rooftop, 29 kilograms of sedum sprouts were sown [2]. In Büllesheim, the plant, with 64 PV modules on a roof area of 210 square meters, boasts an output of 28.8 kWp [3].

These projects, according to Jan Poppe, Managing Director for the departments of Technology and Sales at Westenergie Netzservice, demonstrate the synergies of sustainable energy and innovation [4]. The commissioning of these plants further strengthens the sustainable energy transition.

Westenergie Netzservice, based in Dortmund, serves a core region in western Germany, extending from Osnabrück in the north to Trier in the south and from Wesel in the west to Arnsberg in the east [5]. The company offers comprehensive solutions for municipalities, utilities, and businesses, including planning, implementation, operation, and maintenance of power and natural gas lines, broadband networks, and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles [6]. With over 6,500 customers, Westenergie Netzservice is a key player in the region's sustainable energy transition.

The PV plant in Büllesheim can generate up to 29,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in an average sunny year [3]. The plants are covered with greenery to protect them from weather influences. The commissioning of these plants took place on August 6, 2025 [4].
