Göttingen Police Crack Down on Impaired Driving, Find 282 Offenses in 3-Day Operation
Göttingen Police Directorate recently conducted a large-scale, multi-day control operation targeting impaired driving, from April 8 to 10, 2025. This significant effort involved 214 deployment forces from various police directorates and other federal states, including local officers and specialized units like riot police and traffic enforcement units.
The operation, focusing on impaired driving, a state priority in 2025, covered federal highways and motorways under the jurisdiction of all police inspections in the region. Over three control days, a total of 1,401 vehicles and 1,585 persons were checked. Speed checks were also conducted simultaneously.
The new concept for drug detection in road traffic proved effective, with 12 drivers suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and/or medication on the first day alone. Blood samples were ordered for further investigation. In total, 282 criminal and administrative offenses were found, with traffic offenses and drug-related driving offenses being the most common.
The operation resulted in the discovery of 282 offenses, highlighting the persistent issue of impaired driving in the region. The cannabis legalization law's increased THC limit has raised concerns about the risk of traffic accidents due to drug influence. The Göttingen Police Directorate's efforts aim to remove impaired drivers from the road, ensuring safer streets for all.
