Girl's Perspective Unveiled: Launch Date, Cast, Synopsis, Teaser, Interview, and Comprehensive Insights

The BBC Three drama series, "What It Feels Like for a Girl," is set to premiere in June 2025, and the cast and plot details have been revealed.

Based on the memoir by writer and journalist Paris Lees, the series follows the journey of Byron, a rebellious teenager living in a small, working-class town struggling with the aftermath of the coal mine closure in the 1980s. Byron, portrayed by Ellis Howard, yearns to escape their small town and find freedom at the dawn of the new millennium.

The series is a deeply personal project for Paris Lees and is set against a soundtrack of Missy Elliott, Moloko, and Basement Jaxx. Byron embarks on a passionate relationship with Max (Calam Lynch), but when Max disappears without explanation, Byron goes searching for him on the queer club scene in Nottingham.

However, Byron finds a new spiritual home instead when she meets charismatic podium dancer Lady Die (Laquarn Lewis) and is adopted into Die's found family of misfits, the Fallen Divas. This chaotic group of troublemakers, including acid-tongued trans sex worker Sasha (Hannah Jones) and bad boy Liam (yet to be cast), provides Byron with a sense of belonging she never thought possible.

The series also stars Emma Shipp, Sekou Diaby, Laura Checkley, Oliver Huntingdon, Lorn Macdonald, Rhys Connah, Alex Thomas-Smith as Sticky Nikki, and Fay Ripley and Selina Mosinski in guest roles. Chris Sweeney serves as the lead director, with Paris Lees as the creator and writer. Adam Ali plays Dirty Damian in the series.

Paris Lees is excited about bringing the series to life, considering it a primal scream against a world that would prefer people who don't fit the norm didn't exist. A trailer for the series is now available from the BBC.

"What It Feels Like For A Girl" is an eight-part series and will air on BBC Three and BBCiPlayer on Tuesday 3 June 2025. The series promises to be a gripping exploration of youth, identity, friendship, self-discovery, and the search for connection, as Byron navigates love, danger, self-discovery, and self-destruction on her journey to find her place in the world.
