Gather, mingle, honor: Approximately 1500 individuals at the family gathering in Park Schöntal
In the heart of Aschaffenburg, Schoental Park played host to a family festival on July 13th, attracting approximately 1500 people. The event, organized by the city in cooperation with several associations and integration guides, aimed to bring life back to the park and serve as a place for community meeting and remembrance.
Mayor Jürgen Herzing thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the festival, expressing that it symbolized the people of Aschaffenburg reclaiming and revitalizing Park Schoental. The festival was designed to make Schoental Park a peaceful meeting place for the community, with activities such as picnicking, listening to music, watching circus arts and theatre, and remembering.
A central part of the festival was the site of a stabbing incident that occurred in January, involving a mentally ill man and a kindergarten group. Churches offered conversations and invited participation in a "Hope Puzzle" at the site, while the Moroccan community hosted mint tea, pastries, and craft activities for children at the blue piano. The festival served as a place for remembrance of the victims and a statement against exclusion and violence.
Nursing students and professionals from the Hans-Weinberger-Academy Aschaffenburg provided care for families with special needs at a designated area. The program for the festival included contributions from the Circus Theo d'Or, Theater Einfach Riesig, McKennas Theater, and "Geraldino & the Plomsters".
Mayor Herzing emphasized the importance of the festival, stating, "This event is about coming together, healing, and showing solidarity. It's about showing that our community stands united against violence and exclusion." The festival was a testament to the resilience and unity of the Aschaffenburg community, providing a day of joy, remembrance, and renewal.
