gardening event scheduled for October 1, 2024, in Podleże and Niepołomice: flower meadow seeding and bulb planting initiated by GLP

A flower meadow and bulb planting event took place on the 1st of October 2024, with our organization partnering with GLP to enrich the local areas of Podleż and Niepołomice. The events, aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appeal and fostering biodiversity, encouraged the creation of pollinator-friendly spaces. The initiative was an integral part of GLP's volunteer work, further reinforcing their dedication to local communities and environmental protection.

Young participants, primarily from schools, were crucial to the Podleż part of the event. They joined volunteers and GLP staff, learning about environmental conservation and contributing to the creation of vibrant, colorful meadows. Their involvement added to the spirit of cooperation and joy that characterised the entire action. By participating in such initiatives, youth are refining their skills and gaining an awareness of the environmental issues plaguing our environment.

Flower meadows play a pivotal role in the ecosystem, serving as habitats for numerous species while attracting pollinating insects. These meadows not only contribute to aesthetics but also help protect local flora and fauna, offering food and shelter for various species. Moreover, planting flower meadows aids in soil regeneration, improving soil structure and water retention, especially during climate change.

Creating flower meadows offers several significant benefits for local biodiversity and climate change mitigation. These ecosystems support a wide range of species, enhance ecological networks, store carbon, reduce resource use, and provide resilience to climate stress. Furthermore, they add visual appeal and contribute to community engagement, improving mental health.
