Airbus Foundation Embraces Sustainability and Youth Empowerment
The Airbus Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to making the world a better and more sustainable place, has been actively engaging in projects that focus on climate change action, humanitarian response, and youth development.
In line with Airbus's commitment to sustainable aviation and eco-conscious practices, the Foundation supports initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and reduce carbon footprints. This aligns with the company's push for greener aerospace solutions and the advancement of technologies that mitigate climate impact.
In the realm of humanitarian response, the Foundation has been providing aid and support in crisis zones worldwide. Leveraging Airbus's aviation capabilities, the Foundation has delivered essential supplies and services quickly and efficiently to affected populations. In 2021 alone, the Foundation responded to various humanitarian aid requests, including providing helicopter support to Chile, Papua New Guinea, and Haiti, and delivering COVID aid to Nepal.
Recognising the importance of addressing climate change, the Environment pillar was added to the Foundation's mandate last year. This shift reflects Airbus's sustainability priorities and the Foundation's focus on using Airbus's satellite imagery to monitor and protect fragile ecosystems, as well as to address climate change.
To this end, the Foundation finalised two new environment-related partnership agreements last year: with Connected Conservation Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Both partnerships aim to use Airbus's satellite imagery to address climate change and to monitor and protect fragile ecosystems.
In addition to its environmental efforts, the Foundation has been working to empower and inspire young people, particularly in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and skills development. This includes educational projects, advocacy for youth inclusion, and fostering early engagement in aviation and technology fields.
Last year, the number of students participating in the "Moon Camp Challenge" saw a significant increase. The Foundation continued its partnership with the European Space Agency and Autodesk, supporting the international challenge. The Foundation spent the year evolving its strategy to provide more online content, develop the Airbus Foundation Discovery Space, and create explanatory videos about hydrogen and DIY experiment videos.
Looking ahead, the Foundation's mandate is up for renewal in 2023, and a roadmap for the next five years is being defined based on the three pillars. The Foundation believes it is uniquely equipped to address some of the world's most pressing challenges due to its access to Airbus products and the technical expertise of Airbus employee volunteers.
