Fellowship Announcement: 'Stories of Hope' Media, India, 3rd July, 2025
The Himalaya for Future initiative, a TATA Initiative supported by TCS Foundation, has announced the call for applications for the Stories of Hope Media Fellowship. This unique opportunity aims to support eight young, emerging journalists and storytellers in India as they document and disseminate impactful stories from the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).
The IHR, encompassing 11 states and 1 union territory, plays a significant role in India's climate, geography, and natural resources. The regions included are Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
The fellowship encourages young fellows to produce captivating stories that highlight innovative conservation solutions focusing on critical conservation issues such as biodiversity, water conservation, climate change, sustainable livelihoods, and cultural heritage preservation within the IHR.
Eligible applicants are Indian journalists from diverse backgrounds, including print, online, radio/audio, and television/video journalists. Ideal fellows are Indian students, young journalists, and researchers aged 21-32 with a strong interest in HFF themes.
Each fellow will be required to publish one story of 1,000-1,500 words on one of the selected themes under the Himalaya for Future initiative. The fellowship offers young fellows a comprehensive experience through field visits, access to exclusive resources, creative freedom, and a budget of INR 70,000.
Applications must be submitted via Google Form by 18th July 2025. The maximum time for completing the fellowship work is four months, starting from 1st August 2025. Applicants must submit their applications in English, but are encouraged to publish in regional languages as well.
Selected fellows will be notified via email and announced on the website. Applications will be reviewed based on relevance to HFF's themes, past storytelling and environmental reporting experience, originality and feasibility of the proposed pitch, creative potential and reach of the content, and commitment to fellowship activities. A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in environmental or development reporting is required.
