Experiencing Sonic Splendour: Museum of the Bible's Innovative 360-Degree Surround Sound Techniques
The Museum of the Bible, located just two blocks south of Washington, D.C.'s National Mall, has unveiled its latest high-tech interactive exhibit - All Creation Sings. This 45-minute immersive worship experience, inspired by Psalm 148, showcases the flexibility of L-ISA technology in fixed installations.
James Rudder, L-ISA application engineer at L-Acoustics, used an L-ISA Processor II for onsite spatial mixing in the All Creation Sings exhibit. The installation includes 16 X8i coaxial loudspeakers, four KS21 subs, and seven LA2Xi amplified controllers.
The exhibit uses 360-degree projection mapping and LiDAR sensors for interactive, generative effects. Meptik designed the visual spectacle, while Skylark AV handled the installation of the projectors, LiDAR cameras, and technical gear.
The final mix for the All Creation Sings exhibit was done in-room by Skylark AV and L-Acoustics, ensuring a perfect match between visuals and audio. This meticulous approach has resulted in a sound quality that feels warm, moving, and engaging, according to Museum of the Bible IT interactive systems manager Joel Conrad.
L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound technology is central to All Creation Sings' surround experience. The immersive playback option of L-ISA is suitable for fixed environments where audio content doesn't change. This technology allows sound designers to place musical and narrative sounds dynamically in a three-dimensional space, providing a realistic, enveloping audio experience that supports storytelling through sound.
The immersive approach helps transform a traditional listening encounter into an interactive, sensory-rich worship experience where visitors can feel enveloped by the sounds of creation and worship. L-ISA's immersive audio mixing capabilities were used in the All Creation Sings exhibit, offering creators new tools to craft captivating soundscapes.
While the exact details for the Museum of the Bible’s All Creation Sings exhibit are not fully elaborated, the general capabilities of L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound—such as precise 3D sound positioning, realistic spatialization, and interactive audio movement—serve to heighten the interactive worship experience by making sound a tangible, enveloping element in the exhibit's environment.
Despite initial concerns about cost, the implementation of L-Acoustics solutions in the All Creation Sings exhibit turned out beautifully. Skylark AV showed that an L-Acoustics solution wouldn't add a significant cost for the exhibit. All Creation Sings features interactive biblical storytelling, making it one of the coolest things IT interactive systems manager Joel Conrad has ever experienced.
