Experiencing a novel immersion for churchgoers: Church's innovative sensory approach engulfs visitors

In the heart of Cuenca, Spain, the ancient temple of San Miguel now hosts the Luz Cuenca multimedia exhibition, a breathtaking fusion of artistic lighting techniques, 2D and 3D projection mapping, and a dramatic orchestral music score. At the core of this immersive experience lies the KV2 sound system, a technology renowned for its ability to deliver clear, powerful, and high-fidelity audio.

The system, designed and supplied by AV expert company Fluge, comprises 12 EX26 two-way active loudspeaker systems evenly distributed along the walls of the nave, with additional speakers for low end reinforcement. Custom white housings were designed for all the loudspeakers to minimize interference with the video mapping. There are 8 EX1.5 subwoofers distributed in pairs either side of the altar, plus a further pair left and right slightly further down the nave.

The synergy between the EX26 and the EX1.5 subwoofers allows for a flat reproduction of the entire sound spectrum, ensuring no drop-off at any frequency. This unique ability to deliver high-quality, detailed, transparent sound at low and high Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) is a key benefit of the KV2 system.

Jesús Catá, AV project engineer at Fluge, explained that the main objective was to effectively and uniformly reproduce sound in space at low volumes. The required SPLs were not particularly high due to the acoustics of the church playing an important role in the sound environment.

The KV2 system's high power and clarity, achieved through dedicated drivers for bass, midrange, and high frequencies, ensures balanced sound reproduction. Its versatility in adapting well to complex multimedia environments is another advantage, making it an ideal choice for Luz Cuenca, where spatial and dynamic sound is critical to user engagement.

Ibercover Studio was in charge of production and content design for Luz Cuenca. The system will be used for various events with more demanding level requirements. With its robust bass performance, the KV2 system promises to deliver an exceptional audio experience for these future events.

The signals are then processed and distributed to the loudspeakers via NST Audio DSP matrices, with each loudspeaker receiving independent audio signals. The audio signals are sent via Dante from the Watchout 6 video playback system.

While detailed information specific to Luz Cuenca is limited, the described KV2 ESD312 loudspeaker technology aligns with the needs of sophisticated multimedia exhibitions requiring immersive, clear, and adaptable sound systems. The KV2 system, with its precision and immersive audio capabilities, is likely to provide a memorable auditory experience for all who attend the Luz Cuenca multimedia exhibition.
