Expansive New York loft-style furniture exhibit has become a reality
Lawson-Fenning Opens New York Showroom, Blending California Chic with New York Elegance
Lawson-Fenning, a California-based furniture brand, has expanded its presence to Manhattan, opening a showroom that seamlessly blends the vibrant energy of New York with the laid-back sophistication of its West Coast roots.
The new showroom, located in a 1910 cast-iron building on Lafayette Street in Manhattan's Noho neighborhood, is a testament to the brand's ability to adapt its aesthetic to different local contexts.
Glenn Lawson and Grant Fenning, the co-founders of Lawson-Fenning, have always been committed to delivering a form-follows-function ethos while prioritizing craftsmanship, beauty, and local makers. This mission remains unchanged in their New York venture.
To oversee the interior design of the Manhattan showroom, Lawson-Fenning tapped fellow Californian and long-time friend Josh Greene. Greene, known for his unique design perspective, has created a space that balances bold character with architectural elegance, reflecting the sophisticated urban style associated with New York interiors.
The design of the Manhattan showroom features bolder colors compared to the neutral palette in Los Angeles. Inspired by the view outside Lawson's window in Los Feliz, the colors include orange, blush, ochre, and green. Greene used partitions and walnut millwork to make the 4,500 square foot space feel more intimate, creating residential-scaled spaces without feeling overwhelming.
The new showroom has already received positive feedback from customers, with some expressing interest in moving into the showroom itself. Lawson and Fenning are pleased with the outcome of the showroom's design and plan to use their New York digs to host new collections, exhibitions, and highlight their maker community.
In addition to their own original designs, Lawson-Fenning sells lighting, ceramics, and vintage both online and from a brick-and-mortar shop on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. The Manhattan showroom is a new chapter in Lawson-Fenning's story, exploring how their California brand translates to New York.
The Manhattan showroom's Californian neighbor is Nickey Kehoe's store, another testament to the growing influence of West Coast design in the Big Apple. Lawson-Fenning's expansion to Manhattan is a significant step for the brand, further solidifying their position as a leader in the contemporary design world.
