Expanded Cycling Infrastructure: SchorndorfNow Bridges Cycling Gap
In the picturesque town of Schorndorf, a significant change has been introduced to the cityscape, making cycling a safer and more comfortable experience for all. The improvements, carried out just in time for the start of the new school year, have transformed the bike infrastructure near the Grauhalde campus and the intersection of Schlichtener and Krummhaar streets.
Cyclists can now find dedicated waiting areas before intersections, allowing them to position themselves in front of vehicles, enhancing visibility and reducing conflict situations. These waiting areas, marked with red, have a width of 1.85 meters or two meters, providing ample space for cyclists to maintain a safe distance from moving traffic.
The new markings and widened bike lanes, now 1.85 meters wide, comply with current regulations, offering a better structure for the streetscape. Advanced stop lines have been introduced, improving visibility and creating a more relaxed and safe riding experience.
The improvements are not limited to students who use the Schlichtener Street route daily; they aim to benefit all cyclists in the area. The headmistress of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium, for instance, expressed her delight with the new regulations, stating, "The new markings are great!"
Moreover, the smaller curve radius in Krummhaar Street contributes to traffic calming, making the zebra crossing more accessible and safer for pedestrians. This aspect of the improvements will undoubtedly benefit the hundreds of students who use this route daily on their way to school.
The person responsible for the improvements of the bicycle infrastructure at Schlichtener Straße and the intersection with Krummhaar Straße in the Schorndorf district remains unspecified, but the improvements were carried out in 2023.
These changes mark a significant step forward in Schorndorf's commitment to creating a more bike-friendly environment, with the ultimate goal of protecting children and youth on their way to school. The improvements are set to make cycling in Schorndorf a more enjoyable and safer experience for all.
