Germany's Baking Industry Gathers in Düsseldorf for Successful Iba 2025 Trade Fair
The German Bakers' Confederation hosted an impressive showcase of international trends and talent in the baking industry as the Iba 2025 trade fair concluded in Düsseldorf. The event attracted 49,115 visitors from 149 countries, with the German Bakers' Championship, the World Championship of Bread Sommeliers, and the UIBC Cups providing highlights.
The UIBC Cup of Bakers, a prominent competition for skilled bakers from six nations, took place in Hall 14, where the German Bakers' Confederation had its stand. Germany fielded master bakers Johanna Lenhardt and Lea Wagner in the competition, alongside their counterparts from France, Iceland, Jordan, the Netherlands, and Sweden[1].
Across five days, the fair displayed an abundance of innovations and trends from the baking sector, with 985 exhibitors unveiling a wide range of offerings. The Confederation's stand in Hall 14 became a hub of activity, hosting numerous lectures, competitions, and events, drawing visitors from all corners of the globe[2].
Roland Ermer, President of the Confederation, expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating that they had succeeded in presenting new trends, sparking fresh ideas, and fostering valuable professional connections[3]. Germain bakers spoke with colleagues from regions across Germany, emphasizing the importance of unity within the industry for collective success.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Honourary Award of the Baking Trade marked the start of the Iba, honoring 50 distinguished businesses in the guild. In the German Bakers' Championship, the team of Sebastian Brücklmaier from Munich and Yannick Dittmar from Herford emerged victorious with a display of impressive baking art. The World Championship of Bread Sommeliers also received widespread attention, with Michael Kress from Weinheim securing the win over 15 other contestants[4].
Exemplary craftsmanship was evident in the UIBC Cup of Bakers, with the French delegation shining. The UIBC Cup of Confectioners brought smiles to the South Korean winners. The Confederation also provided engaging opportunities for apprentices, with workshops and tours showcasing the latest developments in the baking industry.
Roland Ermer applauded the industry's commitment to preserving and advancing the art of baking. The Confederation works closely with partner associations to secure the future of the craft, and Iba 2025 served as a platform for political debate[5].
Two separate Iba events saw the departure of Bernd Kütscher, the managing director and director of the Academy of German Baking Trade. Ermer thanked Kütscher for his service and outstanding contributions, honoring him with membership in the German Bakers' National Team[6].
The next Iba trade fair will take place in Munich from October 24-28, 2027. More information about the Confederation can be found at www.baeckerhandwerk.de[7].
