In the heart of Dresden, on the banks of the Elbe River, a new cultural ambassador has emerged. Nelly Köhler, a 17-year-old resident, has been appointed as the 29th Dresden Stollenmaid, a traditional and honourable position that dates back to 1995.

As the Stollenmaid, Nelly Köhler will represent and promote the city's famous Christmas pastry, the Dresden Stollen. This role involves participating in events related to the Christmas season, helping to preserve the heritage and traditions surrounding this iconic holiday treat, and making numerous public appearances at festivals and celebrations tied to Dresden’s Stollen market and Christmas festivities.

Nelly Köhler's term will see around 50 mandatory appointments, ensuring a busy and exciting time for the young baker-in-training. In her second year of baking training, Nelly is no stranger to hard work and dedication, qualities that make her an ideal choice for the role.

Beyond her love for the Dresden Stollen, Nelly Köhler has a passion for art. She spends her free time painting abstract landscapes in watercolours, and her love for Dresden and its cultural treasures is evident in her work.

To commemorate Nelly's new role, a ballpoint pen drawing of her was created by artist Nadine Woelk. This portrait will be auctioned during the Christmas season, with the funds raised going towards a good cause.

In addition to promoting the Dresden Stollen locally, Nelly Köhler will also represent the region at events such as the Green Week and the ITB travel fair. These events, with origins dating back to the 14th century, provide an excellent platform for Nelly to showcase the city's traditional cake and its rich history.

As the new Dresden Stollenmaid, Nelly Köhler considers her role and the Dresden Stollen as great treasures. Her love for Dresden, its art, cultural treasures, and enchanting places shines through, making her an excellent choice for this honourable position.

Nelly Köhler's love for Dresden extends beyond the traditional Christmas pastry she now represents, as she also has a passion for art, creating abstract landscapes in watercolours that reflect the city's cultural treasures. Furthermore, as the new Dresden Stollenmaid, Nelly will showcase not only the city's famous Stollen at events like Green Week and ITB travel fair, but also its rich food-and-drink culture and home-and-garden heritage originating from the 14th century.
